Over the past decade, Matthew Pillsbury has built an extensive body of work that explores contemporary metropolitan life and the passage of time. Thanks to Matthew’s extended exposure times, the actions of his subjects are transformed into pure gesture and energy. City Stages collects together these large-format, black-and-white photographs for the first time. Our restrained, almost invisible, design allowed Matthew’s photographs to take centre stage. The cover is wrapped with red linen cloth, the typography is screenprinted and a photograph is tipped into a debossed area. City Stages is published by Aperture.
